Inventor 3D environments in lighting styles

If you have Inventor 2011 loaded and haven’t looked at the lighting styles yet, please stop whatever you are doing and check them out now!  The new 3D environments available in 2011 in combination with the “image based lighting” can create some really stunning visuals.  If you ever need to create compelling imagery for sales, marketing, or conveying ideas within your organization, this is one of the first things to try out.

Autodesk Labs Releases 3D Annotation for Inventor

Released on July 16th was some great technology released for preview by Autodesk on its Labs website http://labs.autodesk.com/utilities/inventor3da/.  The tools will alllow you at add annotation to your 3D models like:

  • Dimensions
  • Hole notes
  • Fillet and Chamfer notes 
  • Text and Leaders
  • Surface Symbols

It also contains a nice inspection tool that allows you to see callouts that have been place and callouts that maybe missing.

Visualization Warning in Vault – Remove it in 2011

With the release of the 2010 Vault family, extra tools were included to enable server side visualization publishing.  The only wrinkle with that was a warning that would always show up after checking in a file from the CAD software.

Warning that can be turned off in Vault 2011

Just change this Administrative setting, and the warning will go away for users viewing within the Vault:
