I have run across a common misconception about the Factory Design Suite and that is it’s ability to work with elevations. This post will talk about a few different ways to work with elevations and some of the functionality that lives inside of this unique set of tools. The main tool I will use is creating sub-layouts that I relate back to layers but really they are sub-assemblies. When creating a sub-layout you have the ability to offset the original flush constraint (consider it a work plane) any positive or negative distance. Take a look at the video and like always if you have any questions please feel free to reach out to the cadgeek team. CAD.Geeks@tatatechnologies.com

Layer Symmetry allows us to visualize what our complete model will look like when we are only building half of a symmetrical part.

Layer Categories are a way to organize you layers into groups. This can help you clean up a cluttered work space as will as hide layers that you don’t need at any moment.

I have often been asked about how to assign layers to different components in an Inventor drawing. The number one variation of this question involves some sort of automatic layer mapping to different parts in an assembly. While this isn’t a task that is automatic, there are some selection techniques that can be used in drawings to speed this task. Check out this video to see how selection filters, browser selection, and the “select as edges” right click option can help you assign layers to your drawings as well.

Well today I thought I’d share some functionality that can help everyone using AutoCAD Mechanical today.
Wew have all had a design that the more you worked on the assembly the deeper it got and before you knew it you could not tell one object from another.
Every Object line was on OBJ, every Hidden Line on HID…. You get my point.
Well in AutoCAD Mechanical there is a great tool set for layer management. Layer Groups!
This aloows you to name Groups of the same layers by things like part name.
I think you will like this one a lot!
